Vientiane's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system will begin collecting passenger fares from October 12, 2026, with a flat fare of 10,000 kip per person per trip.

(KPL) The Department of Public Works and Transport of Vientiane announced the new fare on October 6, covering the BRT route from Chao Anouvong Park to the National University of Laos (Dong Dok). Passengers can board and exit at any station along the route.
Passengers can pay their fares in three ways: Smart Card, cash or QR code.
Smart Cards can be purchased and topped up at five main stations: Chao Anouvong Park, in front of Somerset Hotel, Morning Market (Talat Sao), Patuxay and the National University of Laos. A refundable deposit of 30,000 kip is required for each card. The deposit and any remaining balance will be refunded when the card is returned.
Passengers paying by cash must use the fare boxes installed on BRT buses and provide exact change, as no change will be given.
Cashless payment is also available by scanning the BRT BUS SERVICE QR code linked to the official bank account of the Vientiane Urban Transport Management Division.
Residents, students, organisations and visitors are encouraged to take note of the new fare arrangements and cooperate with the authorities.
