ຂປລ The Xe Lanong 1 Hydropower Dam in Savannakhet Province is scheduled to begin releasing water on September 12 in preparation for forecast heavy rainfall, prompting authorities to warn communities along the Banghiang River to take precautionary measures.

According to a warning issued by the Phine District Office, the dam may release water at a rate of up to 7,000 cubic metres per second. Residents living along the Banghiang River, both upstream and downstream of the dam, have been advised to avoid activities near the river and remain alert to possible rises in water levels.
Residents in potentially affected areas have also been urged to move belongings, livestock and other property to safer locations and prepare to evacuate to higher ground if conditions worsen.
Weather forecasts for September 13–19 indicate heavy rainfall that could raise the reservoir level to around 215.50 metres above sea level, close to the dam’s design flood level of 215.97 metres.
Authorities are urging residents to closely monitor river and reservoir conditions, follow official announcements and take necessary measures to protect lives and property.
The warning comes as local authorities strengthen preparedness for possible flooding associated with increased water levels and heavy rainfall in the area.
