(KPL) On the morning of August 26, 2026, the Ministry of Finance hosted a consultation meeting to address inconsistencies in the collection of transit freight service fees within the Thanaleng Dry Port development zone and toll collection at the Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge.
The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Santiphab Phomvihane, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, and Mr. Lekklai Sivilay, Minister of Public Works and Transport. It was attended by deputy ministers, department heads, representatives of relevant committees, and officials from both ministries.
The meeting focused on strengthening revenue collection management and ensuring that relevant technical operations are carried out uniformly, transparently, and in accordance with laws and regulations.
Participants discussed several key issues, including:
Inconsistencies in the management and collection of transit freight service fees;
The toll collection system at the Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge;
Collection of transit freight service fees within the Thanaleng Dry Port development zone; and
Progress on the open bidding process to procure and engage a company to develop the system and install equipment for toll management and collection on National Road No. 9.
Participants also exchanged views and provided practical recommendations to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of implementation.
At the conclusion, the co-chairs provided guidance on each area of work, stressing that all relevant sectors must carry out their responsibilities with a high level of accountability to ensure uniform, transparent, and lawful management of freight service fees and road toll collection
