(KPL) The monthly government meeting for August 2026 opened at the Prime Minister’s Office on August 24 under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, with participants focusing on flood relief, fuel prices, commodity costs and other pressing national issues.
The meeting comes as Laos continues to face the impacts of global economic volatility, including fluctuations in fuel prices and exchange rates, rising transportation and commodity costs, and increasing pressure on household livelihoods. Natural disasters and flash floods have also affected eight provinces, damaging homes, farmland and infrastructure.
Prime Minister Sonexay and other senior government officials have recently visited affected areas to provide assistance and instructed disaster management committees to strengthen preparedness and response measures.
During the two-day meeting, participants will review the Government’s priority work for August and plans for September, fuel and commodity price management, and disaster preparedness. They will also consider several revised laws and decrees, including those on government administration, state procurement, health insurance, social security, civil aviation and cybercrime, as well as policies on mineral development and special development measures for Huaphanh and Phongsaly provinces.
The Prime Minister urged participants to provide focused, practical and concise recommendations to ensure effective outcomes.
