Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone visited Toumlane Subdistrict in Saravane Province on July 22, calling for stronger local governance, sustainable economic development, and improved public services.
The Prime Minister and his delegation were welcomed by provincial and district leaders during the visit, which formed part of the Government's efforts to strengthen newly established subdistrict administrations.
Toumlane Subdistrict covers 12 villages with a population of more than 12,300 people, the majority of whom rely on agriculture for their livelihoods. The area also has tourism potential, including natural attractions and traditional Katang cultural sites. Local authorities have completed the appointment of administrative personnel and established a One-Stop Service Centre to improve public services.
Addressing local officials, Sonexay stressed the importance of combating social problems, illegal logging, forest destruction, and illegal mining while strengthening disaster preparedness and public awareness against criminal activities.
He also called for greater efforts to reduce school dropouts, improve healthcare services, expand telecommunications infrastructure, and promote agriculture and livestock production based on local strengths to reduce poverty. He encouraged orderly community planning and continued capacity-building for subdistrict officials to improve governance and service delivery.
At the conclusion of the visit, the Prime Minister provided financial assistance to the district and subdistrict. He also visited a Katang weaving group and inspected the Souphanouvong Bridge and Road, a strategic transport link connecting Toumlane District with Saravane provincial capital.
