Speaking at the First National Media Conference on July 14, Mr. Khamheuang Khamprasith, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Pasaxon Newspaper, said Lao media has consistently served as a vital political and ideological force throughout every stage of the nation's revolutionary development.
Presenting a paper on the conference's guiding media philosophy, Khamheuang explained that the slogan — "Speak out loudly, touch the heart, act swiftly, overcome obstacles, love the truth and hit the target" — embodies the core values and responsibilities of Lao journalists in the new era.
He said the media must deliver accurate, timely and meaningful reporting that not only informs the public but also strengthens public understanding, fosters social consensus and supports national development. Journalists, he noted, should respond promptly to emerging issues, uphold truth and fairness, and demonstrate professionalism, integrity and resilience when carrying out their duties.
Khamheuang stressed that media organizations must remain closely connected with the people, producing credible and relevant content that reflects public concerns while serving as an effective bridge between the Party, the State and society. He also underscored the importance of evidence-based reporting and constructive journalism that helps identify challenges and contributes to effective policymaking.
Looking ahead, he called for stronger Party leadership over media development, stricter adherence to media laws and professional ethics, greater investment in human resource development, and wider adoption of modern technologies to enhance the quality and competitiveness of Lao journalism.
He said these efforts would enable Lao media to strengthen public trust, effectively counter misinformation, and continue serving as a credible and influential voice in advancing the nation's development objectives.
