President Congratulates Lao Athletes on International Sporting Success

ຂປລ President Thongloun Sisoulith on Friday received a delegation of Lao coaches and athletes in recognition of their outstanding performances at regional and international sporting events, praising their achievements for bringing pride and international recognition to the country.

The delegation, led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Thongsalith Mangnomek, met the President at the Presidential Office to report on recent successes across several sports.
Thongsalith highlighted a series of notable achievements in 2026, including the W.I.G NAGA Football Club's Under-13 team, which successfully defended its Iber Cup title in Portugal for a second consecutive year, while the club's Under-10 team also won its tournament. Bay Savah Football Club's Under-10 team captured the championship at the Vietnam International ACF Football Tournament.
Lao athletes also excelled in sepak takraw, winning four gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the 2026 China Sepak Takraw Open and the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Sepak Takraw Open in China. In basketball, the Lao Under-14 women's team secured two gold, two silver and one bronze medal at the TOA 3x3 Basketball Championship in Thailand.

Thongloun congratulated the athletes and coaches, saying their achievements had enhanced Laos' international profile and demonstrated the country's growing sporting potential.
He encouraged the athletes to continue training diligently, improve their skills, and strive for even greater success in future international competitions.
During the ceremony, Thongsalith presented the First-Class Development Medal to the presidents of W.I.G NAGA Football Club and Bay Savanh Football Club, while several head coaches, coaches and assistant coaches received the Third-Class Development Medal in recognition of their contributions to developing Lao youth sports and achieving success on the regional and international stage.
