The Fire Prevention and Suppression Police Department has reported 144 fire incidents nationwide during the first six months of 2026, resulting in eight deaths, two injuries, and property losses estimated at more than 319.6 billion kip.
The department announced the figures during a mid-year performance review meeting held recently, chaired by Colonel Vanthone Sourisak, Deputy Director General of the Police Department. The meeting was attended by Colonel Bonlivong Vonglouanglat, Director of the Fire Prevention and Suppression Police Department, together with senior officers and departmental personnel.
Presenting the report, Colonel Singkeo Vongphachan, Deputy Director of the department, said fire authorities continued to strengthen political and professional training to improve the operational readiness and discipline of firefighting personnel.
Of the 144 incidents recorded, 20 occurred in Vientiane Capital. The fires damaged 101 houses, including 16 that were completely destroyed, as well as one government office, four dormitory rooms, five warehouses, eight shops, 18 vehicles, and large quantities of timber and finished wood products. Reported causes included cooking accidents, candles, arson, and other factors.
Among the most serious incidents were a warehouse fire in Tonpheung District, Bokeo Province, in late April that caused losses of nearly 100 billion kip, and another warehouse fire in Sikhottabong District, Vientiane Capital, in early June, with damages estimated at 140 billion kip.
Looking ahead, the department will continue strengthening fire prevention efforts, enhance public awareness, improve personnel training, and maintain firefighting vehicles and equipment to ensure operational readiness. Authorities will also reinforce the 1190 emergency hotline, which operates 24 hours a day to provide rapid response to fire emergencies nationwide.
Speaking at the meeting, Colonel Vanthon Sourisak called on officers to maintain discipline, strengthen professionalism, and ensure timely and effective emergency response to better protect lives and property.
