First Joint Government–National Assembly Meeting Held Ahead of Extraordinary Session

ຂປລ Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone and National Assembly President Saysomphone Phomvihane co-chaired the first joint meeting between the Government and the National Assembly Standing Committee for 2026 on July 2 at the Prime Minister's Office in Vientiane.

The meeting brought together Deputy Prime Ministers, vice presidents of the National Assembly, Cabinet members, members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, committee chairpersons, and senior officials from relevant ministries.
As the first joint meeting between the 10th Government and the 10th National Assembly Standing Committee, it focused on reviewing key policy issues ahead of the First Extraordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly, scheduled for July 6–10, 2026.
Participants discussed the implementation of the National Socio-Economic Development Plan, the State Budget Plan, and the Monetary Plan during the first half of 2026, while also considering priorities for the remainder of the year. The meeting also reviewed the draft National Agenda on Rural Development and Poverty Reduction, measures to promote electric vehicles and renewable energy, and new policy directions for sustainable mineral development.
The joint consultation aimed to strengthen coordination between the executive and legislative branches, build consensus on key national priorities, and improve the effectiveness of governance through stronger legal and policy frameworks. Discussions also focused on supporting economic growth, maintaining political stability, and improving the livelihoods of the Lao people.
In their opening remarks, Prime Minister Sonexay and National Assembly President Saysomphone urged ministers and officials to present concise, fact-based reports, clearly identify challenges, and propose practical solutions. They also called for constructive and results-oriented discussions to ensure the meeting's conclusions provide a solid basis for deliberations and decisions during the upcoming extraordinary session of the National Assembly.
