Four Countries Strengthen Mekong Security Cooperation at Joint Patrol Meeting

ຂປລ Officials from China, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand met in Bokeo Province on June 23 to review cross-border security cooperation and prepare for the next joint patrol along the Mekong River.

The 166th Mekong River Joint Patrol Coordination Meeting was held in Huay Xai District and brought together military and law enforcement representatives from the four countries. Participants included senior officials from China's Yunnan Provincial Water Police, the Bokeo Provincial Military Command, Myanmar's water police, Thailand's police leadership, and security forces from Bokeo and Luang Namtha provinces.
During the meeting, delegates reviewed recent cooperation on border security, joint law enforcement operations and coordinated patrols along the upper Mekong River. Discussions also covered efforts to combat illegal border crossings, human trafficking and drug smuggling.
Participants highlighted the close coordination among the four countries in maintaining security and public order along the river, describing the partnership as one built on friendship, cooperation and mutual support.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to deepen collaboration and finalize preparations for the 167th joint Mekong River patrol. Officials said continued coordination among border security agencies would help promote peace, stability and shared development along the Mekong.
