Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone on June 5 attended the launch of two major education sector initiatives: the National Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy and Development Plan 2026-2040 and the National Teacher Policy.
The ceremony was held at the National University of Laos and attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Thongsalith Mangnomek, UNESCO representatives, government officials, development partners and education stakeholders.
Officials said the new strategy and policy will serve as key frameworks for advancing science, technology, innovation and human resource development in Laos.
Speaking at the event, Thongsalith highlighted the importance of science, technology and innovation in driving socio-economic growth, strengthening national development, improving living standards and addressing environmental challenges. He said the initiatives would also support the implementation of the country's 10th National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026-2030).
The Prime Minister presided over the official launch ceremony and joined participants in a tree-planting activity.
Officials said the new strategy and teacher policy are expected to play an important role in strengthening the education sector and enhancing the country's long-term development capacity.
