On Friday, Australian Ambassador Megan Jones met Ms. Sisay Leudetmounsone, Chair of the Central Committee for Organization and Personnel, to discuss the importance of cooperation between the two countries in human resource development and capacity building in support of stronger Laos-Australia relations.
Ambassador Jones congratulated the Lao official on her re-appointment and thanked her for her leadership and efforts to champion practical and people-focused cooperation between Laos and Australia. Ambassador Jones shared that Australia’s recently released national budget demonstrated continued commitment to supporting a peaceful, stable and prosperous Indo‑Pacific and Australia’s intent to remain a reliable partner to Laos and to the ASEAN region in an evolving global environment.Ms. Sisay welcomed Australia’s commitment to human resource development in Laos through the Laos Australia Institute. This commitment responds to Laos’ efforts to develop a highly skilled workforce in government, private sector, and communities across Laos, capable of leading modernisation efforts and implementing long-term national development goals. The Ambassador and Ms. Sisay noted the strong contribution of Lao alumni who contribute the skills obtained though high-quality Australian training and development opportunities to the advancement of Laos. They commended the deep value the people-to-people links that education and training exchanges offer to both countries. They agreed to explore more opportunities to partner in human resource development for the benefit of both countries and the broader region.
