Department of Cultivation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has organized training on pesticide data collection and inspection for officials from five target provinces under the FARM project.
The training was held on May 14 and chaired by Bounchanh Kombounyasith, Director General of Cultivation Department, with participation from provincial and district agriculture officials and relevant stakeholders.The programme aims to strengthen the capacity of pesticide inspection officers and improve management of pesticide use in the cultivation sector. Officials were trained on collecting inspection data and using a digital application to modernize inspection and reporting processes.Authorities noted that pesticides remain an important agricultural input, but improper management can create risks for human health, animals, crops and the environment. Existing regulations include measures governing pesticide production, import, distribution and transportation to prevent contamination and unsafe practices.According to the Department of Cultivation, previous inspections found inconsistent enforcement and continued violations related to pesticide management. The introduction of a digital inspection application is expected to improve monitoring efficiency, strengthen enforcement and support safer agricultural production in Laos.KPL
