Mr. Alounxay Sounnalath Champasak Governor led a delegation from Champasak Province to meet with executives of Sun Group in Da Nang to discuss major tourism investment opportunities aimed at transforming southern Laos into a world-class destination.

During the meeting, the Champasak delegation proposed three strategic locations for large-scale tourism development, including the construction of a “floating basket” or Golden Bridge-style attraction similar to the iconic bridge at Ba Na Hills.
The proposed sites include the Pha Salao–Phou Malong mountain area in Phonthong District, the Bolaven Plateau in Pakxong District, and the Si Phan Don area in Khong District.
Officials highlighted the unique strengths of each location. The Pha Salao–Phou Malong area offers panoramic views along the Mekong River, while the Bolaven Plateau is known for its cool climate and suitability for luxury resort development. Si Phan Don, also known as the “4,000 Islands,” was promoted for its distinctive natural beauty and tourism potential unmatched in the ASEAN region.
Mr. Alounxay also emphasized the strong cooperation between Champasak and Da Nang, supported by growing regional connectivity through the East-West Economic Corridor. He noted that Champasak serves as an important gateway linking Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam, while also being home to the UNESCO-listed Wat Phou World Heritage Site.
In addition to tourism assets, the province promoted its agricultural strengths, including the production of blueberries, blackberries, and macadamia nuts in the cool-climate Bolaven Plateau region.
On the occasion, Sun Group executives expressed strong interest in the proposal and confirmed that company leaders would travel to Champasak in June 2026 with a delegation from Da Nang to conduct a feasibility study for potential investment projects.
The proposed cooperation is expected to create new opportunities for Champasak to develop international-standard tourism infrastructure and services comparable to the famous Ba Na Hills tourism complex in Vietnam.
