(KPL) A groundbreaking ceremony for the Danang–Sekong Friendship Hospital project was held on April 1 in Thateng District, Sekong Province, marking a new milestone in cooperation between Laos and Vietnam.
The ceremony was attended by Bounlay Boutthi, Secretary of the Sekong Provincial Party Committee, and Le Ngoc Quang, Secretary of the Da Nang Municipal Party Committee, along with delegations from both sides, representatives of the Ministry of Health, and relevant provincial and district authorities.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Bounlay Boutthi highlighted that the hospital is a meaningful gift from the Party Committee, authorities, and people of Da Nang to Sekong Province for the 2026–2030 period. He described the project as a “living symbol” of the enduring friendship and special solidarity between Laos and Vietnam, reflecting their spirit of mutual support and shared development.
He noted that once completed, the hospital will significantly enhance healthcare services and improve access to quality medical treatment for residents of Thateng District and nearby areas.
The provincial leadership also called on relevant sectors, local authorities, and communities to actively support the construction process and coordinate closely with contractors to ensure high standards in quality, safety, and environmental protection.
According to Somchit Vongvilay, Director of Chaleunsok Co Ltd, the project has a total investment of approximately USD 6.7 million and is scheduled for completion within 36 months. The development will include a two-storey main hospital building, a staff dormitory, and supporting facilities such as a restaurant, laundry, mortuary, waste treatment system, and power infrastructure, along with modern medical equipment.
The contractor affirmed its commitment to ensuring high construction standards, durability, and sustainability throughout the project.
The ceremony concluded with a joint soil-turning ritual by leaders from both countries, officially commencing construction of the friendship hospital.
