The Vientiane Urban Management and Services Office has announced a temporary waiver of waste collection and transportation service fees for 18 villages affected by the recent hailstorm, aiming to ease the financial burden on affected households.
The measure was announced in an official notice dated 1 April 2026, following a decision by the Vientiane Mayor and resolutions from the Vientiane Disaster Management Committee and the office’s leadership. The policy forms part of broader efforts to support communities whose homes, crops and property were damaged by the severe storm.
The exemption covers 10 villages in Sikhottabong district—Viengkham, Nongteng Neua, Phonsomboun, Nongniaow, Phonsavath Neua, Tadthong, Chansavang, Nongda, Champa and Banmai—and 8 villages in Naxaithong district, including Xaymongkhoun, Sikeud, Dongluang, Phanghaeng, Naxaythong Neua, Naxaythong Kang, Nalien and Pakhaed.
Authorities said the initiative forms part of initial relief measures designed to reduce hardship for families using waste collection and transportation services during the recovery period.
Under the policy, waste collection service fees in April 2026 will be charged only at the normal cycle, with any additional charges waived. Relevant sectors and private operators have been instructed to ensure effective implementation and to coordinate closely with the Vientiane Urban Management and Services Office should any issues arise.
Officials noted that the measure reflects the government’s commitment to supporting affected communities and restoring normal living conditions as quickly as possible.
