(KPL) The Water Supply Department and Thailand’s Office of Economic Development Cooperation with Neighboring Countries signed a Record of Discussion on Feb. 26, 2026, at the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to advance Phase 2 of the Water Supply System Development Project in Lao PDR.

The agreement provides Technical Assistance for surveys and detailed designs and secures continued funding for the construction of water supply systems in nine urban areas across Luang Prabang Province, Khammouane Province, Savannakhet Province, Champasak Province, and Vientiane Capital.

The signing ceremony was attended by Leklay Sivilay, Minister of Public Works and Transport; Krongkanit Rakcharoen, Ambassador of Thailand to Lao PDR; Viengnam Duangphachan, Director General of the Water Supply Department; and Peeramed Vuthithonnetirat, Chairman of NEDA, along with senior officials and representatives of state-owned water enterprises.

The project supports national development strategies through 2035 and the Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Development Strategy (2022–2030), contributing to green and sustainable sector growth and progress toward SDG 6 on clean water and sanitation. It aims to expand safely managed piped water access to 90 percent of residents in provincial and district urban areas.
