Minister of Public Security Urges Tight Security for Upcoming Elections in Vientiane Province

ຂປລ On Feb. 9, 2026, Minister of Public Security Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany on Monday led a high-level delegation to Vientiane Province to oversee security preparations for the Feb. 22 elections of the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils.

(KPL) On Feb. 9, 2026,  Minister of Public Security Lt. Gen. Vanthong Kongmany on Monday led a high-level delegation to Vientiane Province to oversee security preparations for the Feb. 22 elections of the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils.

Provincial authorities reported that most key preparations have been completed in line with the national plan, with a final readiness review scheduled for Feb. 19.

The delegation was received by Mr. Phouthanouphet Xaysombath, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Vientiane Provincial Election Committee, along with senior officials.

Officials said candidate campaign activities are ongoing and will conclude one day before the vote. Ballots will be counted and reported through official channels on election day.

Provincial leaders reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring full voter participation, strict legal compliance, comprehensive security, transparency, and timely budget allocation for election operations.

Lt. Gen. Vanthong instructed relevant sectors to strengthen coordination, enhance cooperation with village-level security forces, reinforce personnel deployment in vulnerable areas, and maintain readiness to respond to any incidents. He also emphasized fire prevention, traffic management, and strict discipline among civil servants and security personnel to ensure a safe and orderly election
