(KPL) A specialized training workshop is being held from February 2–3, 2026, in Vang Vieng, Vientiane Province, to prepare female candidates for the upcoming elections of the 10th National Assembly (NA) and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils (PPC).
The opening session of the training was presided over by Mrs. Thoummaly Vongphachanh, Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the National Assembly Standing Committee, and President of the Female Parliamentarians' Caucus. Participants included female candidates from the central level and 10 northern provinces: Phongsaly, Luang Namtha, Oudomxay, Bokeo, Luang Prabang, Xayaboury, Houaphanh, Vientiane, and Xaysomboun.
Strengthening Political Capacity
Mrs. Thoummaly Vongphachanh emphasized that this training is a milestone in the political careers of these female leaders. The workshop aimed to provide candidates with a profound understanding of the roles, rights, and duties of the National Assembly and Provincial People's Councils; the core directives of the Party Central Committee’s Politburo regarding the leadership and guidance of the election process; and official guidelines from the National Election Committee on campaigning and meeting with constituents.
The candidates engaged in practical skill-building to ensure they are "field-ready" for the election on February 22, 2026.
Achieving Gender Targets
A primary goal of this initiative is to ensure that female representation in the National Assembly and Provincial People’s Councils reaches at least 30%, as mandated by the Politburo. By equipping women with the necessary tools and confidence, the organizers aim to maximize their success in the political arena.
Mrs. Sounthone Xayachak, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the National Assembly, provided high-level guidance. She detailed the Politburo's resolutions on strengthening party leadership across all levels to support the elections and reiterated the legal frameworks for interacting with the voting public.
