(KPL) On December 3, 2025 — The General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of the Lao PDR, Thongloun Sisoulith, has received a high-level delegation from the Communist Party of Cuba, led by Marta Ayala Ávila, member of the Political Bureau and Director General of Cuba’s Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

The meeting took place at the Central Party Office during the Cuban delegation’s working visit to Laos from 1–3 December, which also coincided with the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Lao PDR.

President Thongloun expressed appreciation for Ms Ayala’s participation in the anniversary ceremony, noting that Cuba’s congratulations and support offered strong encouragement to the Lao Party, State and multi-ethnic people. He highlighted the long-standing traditional friendship between the two countries, and acknowledged ongoing cooperation across multiple sectors. The two sides also exchanged views on ways to further deepen and strengthen future bilateral cooperation.

Ms Ayala thanked the Lao leader for the warm welcome and said it was an honour to represent the highest leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba at the anniversary celebrations. She reaffirmed that Cuba attaches great importance to its relations with Laos, both at the party and state levels, and praised the strong foundation of solidarity and cooperation between the two nations.

She expressed confidence that the longstanding partnership between Cuba and Laos will continue to grow, contributing not only to the well-being of both peoples but also to broader efforts to promote peace, friendship and cooperation in the region and internationally.
