(KPL) Xieng Khouang province secured both the men’s and women’s gold medals in Tag Rugby at the 12th National Games, where the sport was included in the competition programme for the first time.
Eight teams competed on 17 November 2025 at the Sports and Physical Education Institute Stadium in Sikheut village, Sikhottabong district. Teams represented Xieng Khouang, Bolikhamxay, Vientiane Province and the host, Vientiane Capital.
The tournament was played in the Tag Rugby (T1 Rugby) format, featuring seven players per side in a round-robin system, with the two highest-ranked teams advancing to the final.
In the men’s final, Xieng Khouang edged past hosts Vientiane with a 17–15 victory to take the gold medal. Vientiane claimed silver, while Bolikhamxay secured the bronze.
The women’s competition saw a repeat of the same scoreline, with Xieng Khouang defeating Vientiane 17–15 to seal their second gold. Vientiane finished with silver, and Vientiane Province took bronze.
The medal ceremony was attended by senior officials including Mr Litta Khatthiya, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Transport; Mrs Phousai Phengphong, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Olympic Committee of Laos; Mr Kinglattana Phongsoumouth, Director of the Sports and Physical Education Institute; and Mr Vilayouth Rathikoun, President of the Lao National Rugby Federation.
