(KPL/Prensa Latina) The First International Meeting on Ancestry in Cuba, "Turban: Heritage and Identity," will take place at Plaza Cultural Center in this capital on November 7-9.

The event is organized by the Municipal Directorate of Culture of the Havana municipality of Plaza de la Revolucion, the Afro-Descendant Neighborhood Network, the Culture Ministry (MINCULT), and the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU), among other institutions.

The program features concerts, theoretical sessions, dance workshops, art exhibitions, Afro-fairs, and discussion forums.

Issues include the use of African turbans and hairstyles, cultural heritage and communication, African entrepreneurship, and topics related to Afro-descendant ancestry.

The event’s theme is “From Resistance to Existence: Carlota’s Legacy Endures,” in tribute to the black heroine who led an uprising 163 years ago at the Triunvirato sugar mill in the western Cuban province of Matanzas.
