(KPL)The China-ASEAN Media Dialogue on the AI Era was held at the Guangxi International Communication Center in Nanning Province on Aug 27, bringing together senior media professionals and academic experts from China and ASEAN countries to discuss AI-driven innovation in the media industry.

Part of the "Sharing New Opportunities, Advancing Together into the Future—Guangxi in the Eyes of International Media 2025" program, the dialogue welcomed nearly 30 participants, including journalists from Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as prominent foreign content creators.

As AI rapidly transforms industries worldwide, the forum addressed how media can harness its power for innovation while navigating ethical and technical challenges.

Wang Shiyong, Dean of the School of Journalism and Communication at Guangxi University, highlighted AI’s dual role as an enabler and disruptor in journalism, urging deeper integration of AI to enhance reporting depth and accuracy.

Liao Lingfeng, Director of the AI Creation Center at Guangxi Satellite TV, stressed the importance of managing AI-related risks such as disinformation and copyright concerns. He proposed China-ASEAN cooperation in developing multilingual AI systems, cultural initiatives, and talent development to build a sustainable, inclusive communication ecosystem.

Cheong Chiew Yen from Malaysia’s Sin Chew Daily emphasized that while AI enhances newsroom efficiency, journalists must retain responsibility for fact-checking, stating, “The credibility of news must always remain in the hands of journalists.”

Cambodia News Agency’s Yea Chenda Khantey described AI as a powerful partner in social communication, while Watcharin Setakudan of Thailand’s MCOT noted AI’s potential to process vast information quickly, enabling journalists to focus on investigative reporting and storytelling.

The dialogue underscored AI’s transformative potential in media, calling for collaborative efforts to balance innovation with journalistic integrity across the China-ASEAN region.
