(KPL/Prensa Latina) The Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MINSA) will begin a yellow fever vaccination campaign, administering about 200,000 doses of vaccine.

Immunization against the disease caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito will be administered in each municipality according to a vaccination schedule, according to a MINSA statement.

According to the report, workers at border crossings, tourist destinations, international heavy transport drivers, and healthcare workers, as well as forest rangers from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, will also be vaccinated.

Members of the Nicaraguan Army, the National Police, and the Ministry of the Interior will also be immunized, seeking to ensure the protection of those who perform strategic tasks for security, tourism, and environmental protection.

Early this month, the Ministry of Health received 200,000 doses of yellow fever vaccines from Russia, manufactured by the M.P. Chumakov Federal Research and Development Center of Immunobiological Preparations of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

In April of this year, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health announced a series of actions to strengthen epidemiological surveillance throughout the country and at entry points, due to the increase in yellow fever cases in South America.
