The University of Health Sciences (UHS) officially launched its Phonsavanh Classroom also referred to as the Special Classroom during a ceremony held on August 5. The event brought together key figures including Mr. Bounphang Phoummasith, President of the UHS Council, Mr. Phonemek Daraloy, President of the Professional Oversight Council, and representatives from various departments of the Ministry of Health.

The event brought together key figures including Mr. Bounphang Phoummasith, President of the UHS Council, Mr. Phonemek Daraloy, President of the Professional Oversight Council, and representatives from various departments of the Ministry of Health.
In his opening remarks, UHS Rector Dr. Mayphong Mayxay outlined the background, vision, and significance of the Phonsavanh Classroom initiative. Designed to complement standard curricula, the program offers supplemental instruction in medicine and public health entirely in English. Sessions are conducted outside of regular class hours and feature lectures by seasoned professionals, including international experts currently working both in Laos and abroad.
The Phonsavanh Classroom aims to nurture academic excellence and global competencies. Students admitted into the program undergo a highly selective process that includes academic screening and English-language interviews. Those chosen are recognized for their exceptional academic performance, strong English proficiency, motivation, and commitment to revolutionary ethics.
Dr. Mayxay emphasized that the project aspires to cultivate a new generation of high-caliber educators and professionals in the fields of medicine and public health. By elevating both the quality of education and healthcare services, the Phonsavanh Classroom is positioned as a transformative force within the country’s health education landscape.
