(KPL) Xieng Khuang Governor Bounchanh Sivongphanh, accompanied by officials from the provincial disaster management committee, relevant authorities, the provincial military command, and the provincial public security command, visited Viengxay cluster in Kham district, Xieng Khuang Province on July 31, to inspect the damage caused by recent flooding.

The flooding, which occurred on July 22, severely affected several villages in Viengxay cluster—namely Phosi, Phonthan, and Naphieng. Six houses were completely destroyed, while 13 others suffered moderate damage and 16 experienced minor damage. One person was injured during the disaster.

In addition, the flood damaged 52 hectares of rice fields, 45 hectares of cornfields, 35 fish ponds, and killed nine cattle.

It also destroyed two suspension bridges, two irrigation systems, and four gravity-fed water systems. Damage was also reported to power lines, electric poles, and roads. Residents have expressed urgent need for repairs to roadways connecting their communities and electricity infrastructure.

On this occasion, Governor Bounchanh instructed all relevant departments to prioritize unity and cooperation, provide mutual assistance, and work together to restore and repair homes and basic infrastructure.

He emphasized the importance of ensuring hygienic living conditions, preventing disease outbreaks such as diarrhea and dengue fever, and replanting crops on the damaged farmland. He also urged authorities to closely monitor weather forecasts, disease outbreaks, and local needs, and to implement recovery efforts in a timely and coordinated manner—especially in repairing roads, electricity infrastructure, irrigation systems, and water supply systems.

During the visit, the governor also handed over relief supplies to affected communities in Viengxay cluster. These included roofing sheets, rice, instant food, drinking water, household utensils, hygiene kits, and blankets, with a total value of over 67 million kip.
