Laos Moves Toward AI Future with Green-Powered Infrastructure Project

ຂປລ Vientiane, May 30, 2025, the National Data Center, under the Ministry of Technology and Communications, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Silicon Tech Park (Lao) Sole Co., Ltd. to conduct a feasibility study for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure powered by green energy.

(KPL) Vientiane, May 30, 2025, the National Data Center, under the Ministry of Technology and Communications, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Silicon Tech Park (Lao) Sole Co., Ltd. to conduct a feasibility study for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure powered by green energy.

The signing ceremony took place in the presence of Minister Boviengkham Vongdara, and was formalized by Mr. Phouthong Sisavath, acting head of the National Data Center, and Mr. Kabin Somphongsayakun, Director of Silicon Tech Park (Lao).

Under the agreement, both parties will collaborate to establish an AI Innovation Center as a pilot project, focusing on the development and delivery of AI infrastructure services using clean electricity.

The initiative also includes a joint feasibility study to develop a dedicated AI Special Economic Zone (SEZ) covering more than 150 hectares in the capital area of Vientiane. The zone aims to attract investment, enhance technological infrastructure, and position Laos as a regional hub for sustainable AI development.

The project supports the country’s long-term goals to advance digital transformation and build a robust AI ecosystem, aligning with global trends in clean technology and innovation.
