(KPL) Officials in Luang Namtha Province signed a contract on May 15 launching a quartz mining project in Sanghaen and Longkhaen villages, Nalae District.

The agreement was signed during a formal ceremony at the provincial Department of Planning and Investment, with representatives from both the government and the private sector in attendance. The project will be jointly developed by two Lao-owned companies: Nuvong Import-Export Sole Co., Ltd. and Vientiane Stone Development Co., Ltd.

Each company will operate on a 4-hectare site, with a combined investment of over LAK 3.87 trillion and working capital exceeding LAK 372 million. The project has an initial term of five years.

Provincial officials, including Deputy Governor Sivilai Pankeo, emphasized that the deal ensures state oversight and aligns with national investment laws. Ms. Somsie Keopased, head of the provincial investment promotion division, signed on behalf of the government.

Although the quartz will be mined in Luang Namtha, processing will take place in Oudomxay Province, near Phoulat and Namguang villages in Houn District.

The project aims to promote responsible investment practices while strengthening public-private collaboration in the mining sector.
