General Khamtay Siphandone passed away of old age on April 2, 2025, at the age of 102.
On behalf of the Communist Party and Government of China, Ambassador Fang expressed profound sorrow and sincere condolences over the loss of General Khamtay Siphandone.
She extended heartfelt sympathy to the Siphandone family, recognizing the passing as not only the loss of an outstanding senior leader of the Lao Party and Government, but also that of a close friend and trusted comrade of the Chinese Party and people.
Vice President Bounthong expressed deep appreciation for the condolences conveyed by the Chinese Ambassador and held in high regard the letter from Comrade Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the CPC and President of China. On behalf of General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith, the LPRP Central Committee, the Government, and the Lao people, he conveyed heartfelt thanks to the Chinese Party and State leadership for their solidarity during this time of mourning.
This expression of sympathy underscores the longstanding friendship and strong ties established by the senior leaders of the Party and government of Laos and China.
