(KPL) The Government of Japan has provided a grant of USD 107,000 to improve educational facilities in Bokeo Province, Laos.

On October 24, a grant contract was signed by Japanese Ambassador to Laos, Mr. Koizumi Tsutomu, and Mr. Somphit Chanthavong, Director of the Office of Education and Sports for Huayxay District. The signing, held in Vientiane, was witnessed by Dr. Khamphaya Phompanya, Vice Governor of Bokeo Province.

The grant, part of Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), will fund the construction of a new school building, toilet facilities, and provide school furniture for Toup Kindergarten and Primary School. The project also includes relocating the school to higher ground to prevent future flood damage.

Ambassador Koizumi stressed the importance of addressing the declining school enrollment in Laos, saying, "Education is essential for building the human resources that will shape the future. I hope the enhanced learning environment in Toup Village will allow children to focus on their studies and inspire similar efforts across Bokeo and Laos."

Since 1992, Japan has provided over USD 1 million in aid to Bokeo Province, supporting projects in education, infrastructure, and agriculture. Japan remains committed to grassroots development in Laos, ensuring that "no one is left behind."
