(KPL) Representatives of Cuba and the European Union (EU) set up the Subcommittee on Cooperation in this capital on Tuesday to assess bilateral relations and share criteria on energy transition in the challenging scenario of climate change, Prensa Latina has reported.

The parties are giving continuity to the 4th Cycle of Implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU, signed in 2016, meetings that are in session from April 18 to 26 with a broad agenda.

The discussions highlight Cuba’s opportunities in the implementation of the Global Gateway, the European strategy to boost smart, clean and secure links worldwide in areas ranging from digital, energy and transportation to health, education and research.

The Cooperation Subcommittee is headed by Cuba’s Director of Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Investment, Alba Rosa Alarcón, and the European Commission’s Director for Latin America and the Caribbean, Félix Fernández-Shaw.

The agenda consists of talks on the development of renewable energy sources, particularly competitiveness and Cuba’s access to financing mechanisms in this field.

Other issues are the prospects for EU investment in Cuba’s biotechnology, economic modernization and common visions regarding the empowerment of women and youths.

The Cuban delegation reiterated the country’s commitment to the implementation of the Political Dialogue and Cooperation Agreement between Cuba and the EU, and valued its relevance for a sincere and constructive approach to a wide range of issues.

Cuban Ambassador to Belgium and the EU Yaira Jiménez highlighted the broad program of activities during this 4th Cycle, including meetings with Belgian and European counterparts.

In this regard, the diplomat mentioned meetings in the last few hours with the Legal and Claims Coordinator of the European group related to the Credendo credit insurance and risk insurance, Romanie Peters, and with officials from the European Investment Bank.
