PM Visits Flood Victims In Khammuan

ຂປລ (KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on 2 Aug visited flood victim shelters in Yommalath district, Khammuan Province where he presented relief items and financial aid of 300 million kip to the provincial authorities for onward presenting to families affected by flooding events in the province.

(KPL) Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith on 2 Aug visited flood victim shelters in Yommalath district, Khammuan Province where he presented relief items and financial aid of 300 million kip to the provincial authorities for onward presenting to families affected by flooding events in the province.

Some 337 villages in the province are flooded. These include 34 villages hard hit. The flooding has affected more than 20,700 families and more than 7,300 people have been evacuated to safe places, according to Khammuan Governor Oday Soudaphone.  

More than 33,340 ha of rice farmland, representing 43.47% of rice farmland in the province, have been inundated.

The flooding has also caused damages to livestock, schools, dispensaries, electricity facilities and disconnected and damaged roads, including National Road No 12 between Yommalath intersection and the Nam Phao International border checkpoint and Road 1E, from Yommalath district to Nakai district.

Nam Theun II hydropower project has suspended its commercial generation since Jul 24 to avoid releasing water into the Xe Bangfai River.
