Laos' inflation rate rose to 7.9 per cent in September, up from 7.7 per cent in August and 7.6 per cent in July, driven mainly by higher fuel prices, adjustments to education-related goods and services for the new academic year, and seasonal price fluctuations.
According to a report released by the Lao Statistics Bureau on 30 September, the housing, water, electricity and gas category recorded the highest price increase in September, rising by 30.7 per cent.
Other categories contributing to inflation included education, which rose by 18.8 per cent, followed by goods and services at 17.9 per cent and communications and transport at 13.6 per cent.
The Bank of the Lao PDR aims to keep average inflation below 7 per cent in 2026 through measures to maintain macroeconomic stability, strengthen confidence in the Lao kip and support sustainable economic growth.
