The event is organised by the Ministry of Technology and Communications (MTC) in cooperation with the Lao ICT and Digital Association (LIDA). The announcement was made at a press conference held on August 13, 2026.

The event aims to raise public awareness of the digital economy and society, promote the application of modern ICT and digital innovation across sectors, support implementation of the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026–2030) and the Digital Economy Development Plan and Strategy, and provide opportunities for young people to develop skills in technology, innovation and cybersecurity.

Minister of Technology and Communications Dr. Santisouk Simmalavong said digital technologies, including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, digital platforms and connectivity, are increasingly important drivers of economic and social development.

He stressed that digital transformation goes beyond adopting new technologies, requiring changes in mindsets, administration and service delivery to improve convenience, efficiency and transparency, reduce business costs, expand access to opportunities and services, and narrow the digital divide between urban and rural areas.

Lao Digital Week 2026 will feature a Lao Digital Forum, technical seminars, an exhibition showcasing innovations from more than 200 domestic and international startups, networking activities, and competitions in technology innovation, e-sports, cybersecurity, robotics and startup development.

The event is expected to strengthen digital cooperation, promote innovation and investment, and support the development of a skilled workforce as Laos advances towards a more digitally driven economy.
