The Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have sent a joint message of condolence to the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party (LPRP), the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Lao Front for National Development following the demise of Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane, Member of the Party Central Committee Politburo and President of the National Assembly of the Lao PDR.
The message stated that the leadership and people of Vietnam expressed their deepest sorrow and profound regret upon learning that Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane passed away on 8 August 2026.
Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane was an outstanding leader of the Lao Party, State, and people, a loyal communist who devoted his entire life to the revolutionary cause of the LPRP, as well as to the protection, construction, and development of a peaceful, independent, unified, and prosperous Laos.
In his capacity as President of the National Assembly and through various other key Party and State roles, he made vital contributions to improving the legal framework, enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the assembly, promoting socio-economic development, strengthening national unity, and elevating Laos' standing in the international arena.
The message highlighted that Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane was a great, close friend of the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, who consistently demonstrated deep affection and paid special attention to preserving, nurturing, and advancing the great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation, and strategic partnership between Vietnam and Laos.
His passing represents an immense loss for the fraternal Party, State, and people of Laos. At the same time, the Vietnamese Party, State, and people have lost a great friend and a loyal, cherished comrade.
The Vietnamese leadership expressed confidence that the fraternal Lao Party, State, people, and the family of Comrade Xaysomphone Phomvihane will soon overcome this profound grief and loss to continue building an increasingly developed and prosperous Laos.
On this sorrowful occasion, Comrade To Lam, General Secretary and President of Vietnam, and Comrade Tran Cam Tu, Member of the Politburo and Permanent Member of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Secretariat, also dispatched messages of condolence to Comrade Thongloun Sisoulith, Secretary General and President of Laos, and Comrade Vilay Lakhamfong, Member of the Politburo and Permanent Member of the LPRP Central Committee Secretariat.
