President Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse joined a tree-planting ceremony at the National University of Laos (NUOL) on June 1 to mark the 30th anniversary of the university’s founding, the 101st anniversary of International Children’s Day, and the 46th anniversary of National Tree Planting Day.

The event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education and Sports Thongsaly Mangnomek, senior government officials, faculty members, students, and youth representatives.
Speaking at the ceremony, NUOL Rector Prof. Dr. Dexanourath Seneduangdeth highlighted the vital role of forests in supporting livelihoods, biodiversity, environmental protection, and sustainable development. He noted that the observance of National Tree Planting Day alongside International Children’s Day reflects the importance of nurturing both the nation’s youth and its natural resources for future generations.

The rector said the activity was organized to encourage greater participation in environmental conservation, enhance the university’s green campus environment, and contribute to preparations for the 30th anniversary celebrations of NUOL later this year.
Founded in 1996, NUOL has grown into the country’s leading higher education institution, with 13 faculties, two institutes, more than 14,500 students, and 263 academic programmes. The university aims to become a regional and international center for education, scientific research, technology, and innovation.
Following the ceremony, President Thongloun and his spouse led the tree-planting activity, reaffirming the importance of environmental stewardship and sustainable development.
