The delegation was welcomed by Ms. Minapone Xaysomphoo, President of the Attapeu Provincial People’s Assembly.
During a working meeting with the Provincial People’s Assembly, representatives from the Departments of Finance, Agriculture and Environment, Industry and Commerce, Labor and Social Welfare, and Education and Sports presented reports. The purpose of the mission was to monitor the implementation of socio-economic development projects, especially those linked to mineral extraction, which directly impact communities and the environment. The delegation also collected data from affected areas concerning production activities, access to drinking water, ecological conditions, natural resource management, compensation for damages, and efforts to improve the livelihoods of ethnic peoples. The findings will be analyzed and summarized for submission to the National Assembly Standing Committee, which will propose directions and measures for the government and relevant sectors.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of legislation and National Assembly resolutions. Key topics included land concession agreements of Tago Company and Wang Tat Gold Mining Company Limited, compensation and land restoration, relocation arrangements, livelihood support through farming and livestock, issuance of land titles, management of the three forest categories, vocational training, and the construction of infrastructure that impacts ethnic peoples and the environment.
The delegation later visited Tago Company in Hat Chan Village, Xaysetha District, and Wang Tat Gold Mining Company Limited in Wang Tat Village, Sanamxay District. The visits provided opportunities to review the companies’ contributions to rural development and poverty reduction in local communities. Both companies are major investors in agriculture and mining, with activities including rubber plantations, banana cultivation, beef cattle raising, and gold mining.
On this occasion, Mr. Sommat Pholsena and his delegation also met with Colonel Vanthong Kongmany, Governor of Attapeu Province. The governor briefed them on the leadership of the Party Committee and the provincial administration in guiding Attapeu’s socio-economic development, highlighting several notable achievements.
