Deputy Prime Minister receives Vietnam’s congratulations, highlights “special ties”

ຂປລ Laos’ newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister is continuing a round of high-level diplomatic engagements, underscoring the country’s close regional relationships.


Thongsavanh Phomvihane met Vietnam’s ambassador to Laos, Nguyen Minh Tam, on March 23 in Vientiane, where the envoy delivered formal congratulations following his appointment earlier that day.

The visit came shortly after the 10th National Assembly approved Mr Thongsavanh’s appointment during its inaugural session.

Ambassador Nguyen conveyed congratulatory messages from Vietnam’s senior leadership, signalling continued support and close coordination between the two countries.

Mr Thongsavanh expressed his appreciation for the visit and for the messages from Vietnam’s Party and State leaders.

Emphasis on “special relationship”

Both sides highlighted the long-standing “special relationship” between Laos and Vietnam, marked by close political ties and deep-rooted cooperation.

Mr Thongsavanh said the exchange reflected strong solidarity between the two foreign ministries and effective coordination between the Lao government and the Vietnamese embassy in Vientiane.

He also expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s continued support and assistance, describing it as timely and valuable to Laos’ development.

Ambassador Nguyen reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and serving as a bridge to implement agreements reached by senior leaders of both countries.

Laos and Vietnam are signalling continuity in their long-standing partnership, with both sides pledging to deepen cooperation under the new leadership in Vientiane.
