(KPL) On December 4, 2025 — Laos and Vietnam have officially inaugurated the new Laos–Vietnam Friendship Hospital in Houaphanh Province, marking a major milestone in bilateral cooperation in the health sector.
The handover and opening ceremony was attended by Kikeo Khaykhamphithoune, Deputy Prime Minister of Laos, and Nguyen Chi Dung, Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam, along with senior leaders from both countries and officials from Houaphanh and Vietnam’s Thanh Hoa Province.
The nine-storey hospital, equipped with 200 beds, was constructed between June 2017 and October 2025 at a total cost of 518 billion Vietnamese dong. The project was primarily funded through Vietnam’s official development assistance (514 billion dong), with the Lao Government providing the remaining counterpart contribution.
The new facility is expected to significantly improve access to healthcare for residents of Houaphanh Province, as well as foreign nationals living and working in the area. Designed to offer more modern, efficient and higher-quality services, the hospital will also support medical consultations, examinations and treatment for provincial officials and the local population.
Officials from both sides emphasised that the project stands as a lasting symbol of the solidarity and cooperation between Houaphanh and Thanh Hoa provinces, and more broadly between Laos and Vietnam. They noted that the hospital represents both a practical investment in public health and a meaningful legacy for future generations, reflecting the deep and comprehensive partnership shared by the two nations.
