(KPL) The  Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare launched today the 4th National Skills Competition this week, bringing together the nation's top vocational students to compete in five technical fields and prepare for regional championship events.

The three-day competition, organized in partnership with the Lao Federation of Trade Unions and National Chamber of Commerce, featured intense contests in web technologies, electrical installations, food preparation, graphic design, and carpentry.

"These competitions are crucial for developing our workforce to meet regional standards," said Bounma Sithixay, Director General of the Labour Skills Development Institute. "They provide our youth with opportunities to showcase their talents while learning cutting-edge techniques."

Medalists from this national event will undergo advanced training, with the top two performers in each category earning spots on Laos' team for the 14th ASEAN Skills Competition in Manila this August. This marks Laos' continued participation in the regional skills championship, where the country will compete in five technical disciplines.

Deputy Minister of Labour Phongsay Inthalad emphasized the government's commitment to vocational training: "Skilled workers form the foundation of our economic growth. Events like this motivate our youth to develop both technical abilities and professional discipline."

The competition incorporated modern technological requirements, reflecting Laos' push to align its workforce with the demands of digital industrialization. Participants demonstrated proficiency in contemporary techniques across all five competition categories.

As Laos prepares its team for the Manila competition, organizers hope the event will inspire more young people to pursue vocational careers, addressing the nation's need for skilled technical workers in an increasingly competitive regional economy.
