(KPL) The Southern Bus Terminal in Vientiane Capital has confirmed it is 100% ready to provide transportation services during the Lao New Year festival (Pi Mai Lao) 2025, which takes place on April 14, 15, and 16, and the days following.

Mr. Suksavath Sisouk, Director of the Southern Long-Distance Bus Station, announced to the media 9 April that additional bus services will be provided to accommodate the anticipated surge in travelers heading to the southern provinces. Starting from April 11–13, the number of daily bus trips will increase from the usual 60+ to over 80, averaging at least 20 departures per day.

To ensure passenger safety, the station has coordinated with all transport operators to inspect and prepare their vehicles technically and operationally. Passengers are advised to arrive at the terminal at least two hours before departure, as buses may leave earlier than scheduled if they reach full capacity.

“For example, a ticket might say 9:00 AM, but if the bus fills up early, it may depart before that time,” Mr. Suksavath explained. He also recommended those wishing to avoid the holiday travel crowd consider traveling on April 9 or 10. VIP tickets can be booked in advance, while regular ticket holders should purchase their tickets early at the station.

Passengers should carefully check the departure time printed on their tickets. In cases where tickets do not indicate a specific time, buses may depart as soon as full. Those unsure of their travel schedule are advised not to load luggage onto the bus prematurely to avoid missed departures.

Travelers wishing to board buses along the route should check if the bus is already full, and if so, wait for the next one—buses will depart every 15–20 minutes. Ticket prices remain unchanged since October 13, 2023:

Vientiane to Savannakhet:

Regular: 200,000 LAK

VIP2: 230,000 LAK

VIP1: 250,000 LAK

Vientiane to Pakse:

Regular: 270,000 LAK

VIP2: 300,000 LAK

VIP1: 320,000 LAK

First buses depart at 4:00 AM, with last departures around 9:00–10:00 PM daily.
