(KPL) On November 8, a group of Chinese and ASEAN media practitioners visited Guilin’s renowned “Two Rivers and Four Lakes” water system, which includes Rong Lake, Shan Lake, Gui Lake, Mulong Lake, the Li River, and the Taohua River.
This scenic belt encircles Guilin’s city centre and is celebrated for its picturesque views and rich cultural history.
The waterway system, central to Guilin’s tourism, has roots stretching back to the Tang and Song dynasties, a time when the city was interlaced with lakes and ponds, creating a bustling network of waterways.
During this period, small boat tours offered visitors scenic routes across the city. Today, the “Two Rivers and Four Lakes” have been revitalized to mirror the water-bound charm of Venice, making boat tours the top choice for both Chinese and international tourists.

Since 2022, the waterway has been managed by a 5G system. Covering approximately 1,159 square kilometers, the advanced system enhances tourism experiences and provides better management of Guilin’s water routes, said Ms. Jiang Shufang, head of the 5G control system for the Li River.
