AIPA Economic Committee Meeting Held in Vientiane

ຂປລ The ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly Economic Committee convened in Vientiane on October 20, 2024, chaired by Mr. Liber Libuapao, Chairman of the Planning, Finance, and Audit Committee of the National Assembly of Laos. The meeting was attended by parliament members from ASEAN member countries.

(KPL) The ASEAN Inter-parliamentary Assembly Economic Committee convened in Vientiane on October 20, 2024, chaired by Mr. Liber Libuapao, Chairman of the Planning, Finance, and Audit Committee of the National Assembly of Laos. The meeting was attended by parliament members from ASEAN member countries.

During the meeting, participants discussed and considered eight draft resolutions related to economic affairs.

These included: a draft resolution on strengthening the capacity to address cyber threats through ASEAN parliamentary cooperation to build a safe and vibrant digital economy; a draft resolution on the role of parliaments in supporting the implementation of ASEAN recommendations to promote responsible investment in agriculture, food, and forestry sectors; a draft resolution on the role of parliaments in promoting fundraising efforts to develop regional infrastructure connectivity, with the goal of achieving the ASEAN Connectivity Master Plan 2025 and beyond; and a draft resolution on promoting the integration of digital technology within ASEAN to meet the goals of the ASEAN Connectivity Master Plan 2025.

Further discussions focused on draft resolutions to strengthen ASEAN's carbon trading system for sustainable growth and environmental preservation, harness the potential of tourism to sustainably restore ASEAN’s economy, enhance institutional capacity for connectivity in transportation, aviation, and seaports in the ASEAN region, and establish an ASEAN Artificial Intelligence Research Center.
