(KPL) The government’s monthly meeting for February 2024 was opened this morning in Vientiane under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone.

The meeting was attended by deputy prime ministers, other cabinet members, and representatives of ministries and agencies.

Leaders of provinces and Vientiane attended the meeting virtually.

The meeting, scheduled for Feb 28-29, provides the participants the opportunity to review the performance of the government in the past one month and discuss directions for March 2024, priorities of the national agenda on addressing economic and financial difficulties, issues of public security and national defence, Laos’ chairmanship of ASEAN and arrangements for the official visit of foreign leaders to the Lao PDR.

A draft amendment to the law on tourism, a draft law on medicinal resources, a draft amendment to the Law on Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism, and a draft decree on dry ports will be discussed over the next two days along with a draft decree on Telecommunication Development and Digital Transformation Fund, a draft amendment to the law on value added tax, and a draft amendment to the Law on Fire Prevention and Fighting.

Delivering opening remarks at the meeting, Prime Minister Sonexay also briefed the participants about the regional and international situations including external challenges affecting the world’s economic recovery and recovery efforts in the Lao PDR.
