Laos’ economy grew by 4.8 percent in the first nine months of 2026, up from 4.6 percent during the same period last year, while preliminary projections put full-year growth at 5.1 percent, Prime Minister Saleumxay Kommasith told the 2nd Ordinary Session of the 10th National Assembly on October 5.

(KPL) The growth was supported by expansion in processing and manufacturing, private-sector investment and electricity production, including the start of wind power generation. Wholesale and retail trade, public services, and accommodation and food services also expanded alongside the recovery of tourism.
International tourist arrivals increased by 7 percent compared with the same period last year, supporting activity in tourism-related businesses.
However, agriculture remains under pressure and may fall short of its annual targets. Higher fuel prices have increased production and transport costs, while African Swine Fever outbreaks and natural disasters have caused additional losses and disrupted agricultural activities.
Based on preliminary estimates, the economy is expected to grow by 5.1 percent for the full year, below the 5.5-percent target set by the National Assembly.
