(KPL/Xinhua)Fewer Filipino families experienced hunger in the second quarter of 2026, with the hunger rate falling to 20.3 percent in June from 23.2 percent in March, local media reported on Tuesday.
The survey by the Social Weather Stations (SWS) found that 15.8 percent of families experienced moderate hunger and 4.5 percent severe hunger, according to local media Manila Bulletin.
The hunger rate fell in three of the country's four major regions, Metro Manila, Luzon outside Metro Manila, and the central Visayas, but rose on the southern island of Mindanao, where it reached 24 percent, the highest among all regions.
The June rate was slightly above the 2025 average of 20.2 percent but below the 2020 average of 21.1 percent recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic.
