PM Urges Luang Namtha to Strengthen Security and Sustainable Development

(KPL) Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone called on Party and government committees at all levels in Luang Namtha Province to strengthen political stability, accelerate socio-economic development and improve people's livelihoods during his working visit to the province on August 18, 2026.

The Prime Minister urged authorities to step up efforts to combat online scams and drug-related problems, accelerate UXO clearance, and strengthen grassroots political foundations.

He called for effective implementation of the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan, particularly policies aimed at building an independent and self-reliant economy and reducing dependence on imports. He also stressed rural development, poverty reduction, improved public finance and investment efficiency, and stricter management of mineral resources.

Priority should also be given to improving education and healthcare, strengthening disaster preparedness, developing vocational and workforce skills, formalising foreign labour management, and deepening cooperation with neighbouring countries to attract investment and development assistance.

Provincial Party Secretary and People's Council President Lt. Gen. Khamking Phouylamanivong reported that Luang Namtha maintained political stability and economic growth. During the first six months of 2026, the province collected more than 2.21 trillion kip in budget revenue, reaching 58.4% of the annual target.

The province also expanded agricultural production, including sugarcane and natural rubber, while improving infrastructure, education and healthcare services.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Sonexay handed over financial assistance and relief supplies to provincial authorities to support recovery from recent flooding
