The foreign minister has described the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation as a model of regional solidarity and shared development as it marks its 10th anniversary.
Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister, made the remarks in a congratulatory message.
He said that since its establishment, the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) has developed into a results-oriented partnership, delivering progress in areas such as connectivity, economic cooperation, water resource management, agriculture and poverty reduction.
The framework has also helped member countries respond to challenges including disease outbreaks, climate change and economic pressures, highlighting what he described as strong regional cooperation.
Laos has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing initiatives under the framework, including the Green Silk Road, innovation, public health cooperation and the digital economy, with the aim of promoting sustainable development and regional stability.
Mr Thongsavanh said Laos has benefited significantly from the mechanism. Through support from the LMC Special Fund, the country has implemented around 100 projects worth approximately USD 26 million, focusing on infrastructure, human resource development, water management and poverty reduction.
He also expressed appreciation to China for its contributions to the fund, which he said have brought tangible benefits to countries across the Mekong sub-region.
The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation brings together six countries: China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
