President of the National Assembly (NA), Xaysomphone Phomvihane, delivered a keynote address this morning during the inaugural session of the 10th legislature, highlighting five years of national progress and setting out an ambitious agenda for the 2026–2030 term.

Reviewing the previous term, Mr Xaysomphone commended the collective achievements under the 9th National Socio-Economic Development Plan.

He noted that the country has maintained firm political stability, safeguarded national sovereignty, and achieved consistent economic growth. Key milestones included the streamlined restructuring of state apparatus and a significant 2025 constitutional amendment, which enhanced the effectiveness of governance and the rule of law.

"The National Assembly has successfully fulfilled its political duties, acting as a true representative of the rights and interests of the multi-ethnic Lao people," NA President stated.

The current session will focus on several critical national priorities, including the official certification of members for the 10th National Assembly and the 5th Provincial People’s Councils; the election of key state leadership positions and the approval of the new government structure; endorsement of the 10th Five-Year National Socio-Economic Development Plan (2026–2030); reviewing the proposed railway project connecting Thakhek, Khammuan Province, to the Mu Ya Lao-Vietnamese border under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model.

Lawmakers will also deliberate on five-year operational plans for the Supreme People’s Court, the Office of the Supreme People’s Prosecutor, and state audit and inspection bodies.

This legislative roadmap aims to ensure continued stability and sustainable development as the Lao PDR advances its strategic national goals.
