Authorities in Vientiane have announced a flat bus fare of 10,000 kip on selected routes as part of government measures to ease the impact of the ongoing fuel crisis.
The initiative, implemented by the Vientiane Capital State Bus Enterprise, will apply to three electric bus routes from March 23 through May 30, 2026.
The initial routes include:
Route 48: Sikhai – Sikeut – Morning Market
Route 23: Thangon – BRT Bus Station, Saphangmuek
Route 40: Nonghai Roundabout – ITECC – BRT Bus Station, Phonekham
Two additional routes are scheduled to be introduced starting March 25:
Route 28: Laos-China Railway Station – BRT Bus Station, Saphangmuek
Route 20: Beer Lao Factory Intersection – Dongkhamxang – That Luang – Patuxay – Morning Market Station
Meanwhile, the BRT express service connecting Morning Market and Dongdok will continue to operate free of charge.
The measure is designed to reduce transportation costs for residents, encourage a shift away from private vehicle use, and promote environmentally friendly public transport options.
Officials say the initiative also aims to improve accessibility and convenience while supporting broader efforts to manage fuel consumption and urban mobility during the current energy constraints.
